A man outside the store said the violence was sparked by an argument over who was at the front of the line
One woman described the scene as ‘ghetto’ and said shoppers had even ‘broke the glass on one of the doors’, while a girl was taken away in an ambulance after being ‘trampled’.
‘It’s a ghetto here. It’s a ghetto. It was closed. They even broke the glass of one of the doors.
“They fought with each other, one girl had to go into the ambulance because she was trampled.”
A man outside the store said the violence was sparked by an argument over who was at the front of the line.
“People ran to the front and then stayed at the front, and then the people in the second group started arguing and then there was total chaos,” he said in another TikTok video.
“They promised the second half of the line would go in first, before everyone else, but they didn’t,” his friend added.
“So now there’s a whole commotion out front, people not moving their cars, people fighting the staff, people fighting each other… they’ve canceled the sale!”
A one-minute lapse of people waiting in line showed that nearly 10,000 hopeful bargain hunters had come to the event only to leave empty-handed.
“New Yorkers are crazy again!” the user who posted the timelapse said in the caption, adding that “over 9,999 people waited in line for 24 hours for the 80 percent discount event.”
Another TikToker described the sample sale as “a mess” as he filmed hundreds of people still lining the sidewalks in the aftermath after police shut down the event
Another TikToker described the sample sale as “a mess” as hundreds of people were filmed still lining the sidewalks in the aftermath after police shut down the event.
Meanwhile, one intrepid shopper who came to the sale from abroad said: ‘I can’t believe it.
“I came all the way to New York for the Versace sale and left with nothing… they closed the whole place down. This is wild.’
She added that the sample sale was due to run from Wednesday to Saturday, but shoppers were confused as to whether it had been canceled completely.
Her video showed hundreds of people walking around next to several NYPD vehicles with blue lights flashing at the scene.
It is unclear how the alleged argument started.
