Vernon Kay, 50, claps back at claims he wore a ‘padded shirt’ to Wimbledon after he shared buff snaps posing with wife Tess Daly

Vernon Kay has jokingly responded to fans who questioned his Wimbledon outfit choice after attending the men’s final on Sunday.

The 50-year-old former TV star looked stylish as he attended the event at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in south-west London with his daughter Phoebe.

The 50-year-old presenter, who shares the 19-year-old with Tess Daly, smiled as he proudly posed with his daughter before heading inside to enjoy the final day of the annual sporting event.

Vernon shared a photo of his day out on Instagram, writing: ‘@wimbledon @emirates The final was so good!! Come on.’

Funnily enough, some of the star’s 891,000 followers were more focused on Vernon’s choice of outfit than what was happening at the sporting event, replying to the comments and making fun of his tight T-shirt.

“Is that a quilted t-shirt?” one fan wrote, alongside a laughing emoji. Others joked: “You got your medium t-shirt on @vernonkay.”

‘I see you’re wearing a Smedium! Looks good @vernonkay.’; ‘Mmm nice tight, tight t-shirt Vern, goes nicely with your tight panties.’; ‘You’re wearing a Smedium, @vernonkay.’

“Is that T-shirt tight enough?”; “Is that top tight enough?”

Vernon was quick to respond to fans and react to the lighthearted influx of comments during his BBC Radio 2 programme admitted on Monday that “a lot of people” commented on his clothing choice.

He said: ‘It’s a strange morning, it doesn’t feel like a Monday morning after a great weekend of sport.

‘I’ve been to a few BBQs and was invited to a big BBQ before the game yesterday.

‘I went to Wimbledon and posted a picture of myself outside Wimbledon, outside Centre Court. A lot of people commented on the little T-shirt.

‘I went with the smedium. Someone said “are you wearing a padded t-shirt there Vern?” and I said “yeah, padded full of man.”‘

Despite the comments about the ‘stuffed shirt’, Vernon looked in good spirits as he stepped onto the star-studded centre court on Sunday

Hilariously, some of the star’s 891,000 followers were more focused on Vernon’s choice of clothing than what happened at the sporting event, taking to the comments to joke about his tight T-shirt

Despite the ‘stuffed shirt’ comments, Vernon looked in good spirits on Sunday as he stepped out onto the star-studded centre court to watch the gruelling match between Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic.

His daughter Phoebe, 19, looked gorgeous in a white strappy mini dress, paired with white PVC mules with leather trim and a multi-print shoulder bag.

Phoebe is the eldest of the couple’s two children and, together with her 14-year-old sister Amber, had a childhood away from the spotlight.

But since turning 18 last year, she has slowly but surely risen to prominence. Last March, she made her red carpet debut, alongside her father, at the premiere of John Wick Chapter 4.

Vernon previously revealed that he and Tess insist his children should not feed off their fame and should build “their own careers.”

It’s a major factor for the duo, who both rose to fame after being scouted as models and then moving into television.

Speaking to MailOnline in 2022, Vernon said he and his wife believe it is important for their children to ‘find themselves’ and not ‘have their lives handed to them on a silver platter’. He suggested that the couple’s northern background has influenced their views on parenting.

Vernon said: ‘We give them the space to be independent when it comes to them and their future because it’s important for them to find themselves. That’s good for their character and personality development.’

‘Sometimes I think the old silver spoon and life on a plate for them… I think that’s kind of contradictory to how you want them to be.

‘Tess and I grew up in warm, healthy families in the north. That is an important quality that has helped us in our personal development. I think that is very important.’

Elsewhere at Wimbledon on Sunday, Benedict Cumberbatch wore a blue suit while his wife Sophie Hunter shone in a striking yellow dress as they arrived hand-in-hand.

Meanwhile, Tom Hiddleston and Zawe Ashton dressed in Ralph Lauren as they made a rare public appearance together on Day 14 of the competition.

Irish actor Pierce Brosnan, 71, looked handsome in a navy suit and tie, while he completed his look with shiny brown shoes and sunglasses.

Andrew Garfield, 40, looked stylish in a navy jacket and orange shirt, paired with cream trousers.
