Venmo is DOWN: Digital payments app hit by outage that affects thousands of users worldwide

Venmo is unavailable to users worldwide, leaving thousands of people unable to make digital transactions using the app.

DownDetector, a site that monitors online outages, reports that the problems started around 4:00 p.m. ET and affected users in the US, UK, Australia, and parts of Asia, Europe and South America.

Users have reported issues with the app, payments, and logging into accounts.

DownDetectorThe outage map shows that Dallas and Chicago are experiencing the greatest impacts, while other cities, such as San Francisco and Boston, may also experience problems.

About 41 percent of the reports concerned payments, 34 percent concerned money transfers and 24 percent concerned money transfers.

Venmo allows users to send and receive money through the app. Venmo is considered one of the most popular apps of its kind.

The service has over 91 million users, and is expected to reach over 97 million by 2025, and 100 million users the year after that.

The typical Venmo user makes five transactions per month, with an average transaction amount of $65 to $75.

Users affected by the outage are sharing their frustrations en masse on Elon Musk’s X and wondering if others are also experiencing problems.

Rick Matthews posted: ‘Is @Venmo down? I never had any issues transferring money until today and now my app just hangs when I try to choose an account to transfer to. People on Reddit are saying the same thing.

Another user named ‘krill’ also posted on X, tagging Venmo support.

“Hi Venmo, are you currently having issues with your app? I am trying to transfer money to my card or bank but I don’t have either option. Even though both are linked to my account. Please advise,” he shared.

The Venmo support page has not acknowledged the outage.

One X user claimed he called Venmo and the agent said the outage could last several hours.
