A vengeful woman set her own house on fire after a court awarded it to her husband in a bitter divorce – and then blamed him for the arson.

Rebecca Dunn, 39, was jailed for lying about being the victim of the arson by blaming her ex for the fire.

A judge sentenced her to 27 months for the 'revenge attack' following the bitter end of their 17-year marriage.

Prosecutor Amy Edwards said it collapsed due to 'bitterness on both sides', with husband Simon Dunn being awarded occupancy of the £250,000 semi-detached home.

His lawyer called her at 11.14am to say she had lost the house – and just 10 minutes later she called 999 to report a fire in the house.

Dunn set fire to her home in Welshpool, Powys, just minutes after learning a court had awarded it to her estranged husband

The kitchen of the home in Welshpool, Powys, was 'destroyed' and a fire investigation found it had been ignited by an open flame.

Mrs Edwards said it was 'effectively a revenge attack' after falsely claiming her husband had threatened to burn down the building.

Dunn, from Welshpool, pleaded guilty to arson after the court heard she had been in custody since September 2022.

Judge Rhys Rowlands said the incident was to some extent a 'revenge attack' following the end of the relationship and the initiation of family law proceedings.

Dunn was sentenced to 27 months in prison at Mold Crown Court.

The court heard that Dunn plans to move to Kent to live with her parents after her release from prison, and Judge Rowlands said he hoped all parties could now move on with their lives.

She was also given a 10-year restraining order to stay away from her former husband.
