Vengaboys star Robin Pors reveals he was ‘assaulted’ by a ‘horny’ dolphin while filming music video
Vengaboys star Robin Pors has revealed he was ‘attacked’ by a ‘horny’ dolphin, but says he should take the strange encounter as a ‘compliment’.
The singer, 45, was asked about the incident during an interview with the Daily Star. Robin said, ‘The dolphin, yes that’s my story, yes I had an encounter with a dolphin.
Robin’s bandmate Kim Sasabone once said, “Some inappropriate things happened.
Robin was sexually assaulted by dolphins while shooting a music video on a tropical island in the Caribbean. Very horny dolphins.’
Speaking about filming a video for Hot Hot Hot in 2013, he explained, “I had to float in the water and I got to the tropical island and then my phone rings and I wake up and I’m like ‘Where am I? I?’
Uncomfortable! Vengaboys star Robin Pors has revealed he was ‘attacked’ by a ‘horny’ dolphin, but says he should take the strange encounter as a ‘compliment’
Speaking about filming a video for Hot Hot Hot in 2013, he explained, “I had to float in the water and I got to the tropical island and then my phone rings and I wake up and I’m like ‘Where am I? I?’
“And I had to be in the water to do the scene, but one was like you were bothering me and I had to get out of the water and I wasn’t amused, I didn’t know what was going on.
“I can tell you that when you’re in the ocean with the dolphins and you think, ‘That’s cute’ and then you feel how strong they are and they push you and do weird things, it’s weird, but I’m going to have to accept it it as a compliment.’
The Vengaboys topped the charts of the 90s with dance anthems like Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom!, We’re Going to Ibiza and We Like to Party.
And now the band has brought the festive spirit into 2023 as they will return to the UK this year for their 25th anniversary and perform at a slew of music festivals across the country.
The Dutch group, known for their flamboyant fashion and beat hits, is currently touring Australia.
Singers Kim Sasabone and Denise Post-Van Rijswijk join male vocalists Robin Pors and Donny Latupeirissa to form the dance quartet, which previously included Roy den Burger.
The Vengaboys land in the UK in April – with their first stop being a city that knows how to party, Glasgow.
The Vengaboys head to Glasgow’s Braehead Arena and will support Scottish EDM group The Time Frequency on April 22nd. Tickets are available online from £49.29.
Next stop, Dorset. The band will also perform at the three-day family-friendly Teddy Rocks festival on Friday, April 28.
Different paths: The band’s original formation broke up in 2002, with Roy chasing things away from fame while Denise was on her way to welcoming her first child (pictured at the 1999 Record Of The Year Awards)
Joining 90s band East 17 and singer-songwriter Jake Bugg at the Dorset festival, the band will kick off the first day of three
The Vengaboys will bring nostalgia to London’s 90’s Super Show and Mighty Hoopla festivals.
Held at the capital’s Indigo at The O2, the 90’s Super Show is on Saturday 29th April and will also see Ace Of The Base’s Jenny Berggren and Swedish group Rednex perform.
While they will perform at London’s Mighty Hoopla festival on Sunday 4 June, which also welcomes Years & Years, Aqua, Kelly Rowland, Natasha Bedingfield and Sophie Ellis-Bexter.
From April to October, the band travels Scotland, Ireland and England for a range of gigs including Elgin’s Macmoray Easter Festival, Brighton’s Noughty 90’s Festival and Butlins’ 90S Reloaded in Somerset.
The band came to limelight in 1998 when their hit song We Like To Party peaked at number 1 in Belgium, before Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom topped the UK charts a year later.
After four albums, the group temporarily broke up in 2002, when Denise welcomed her first child, Jayden, during the hiatus.
The band then reunited in 2006, with Roy, who later embarked on a career as a cabin crew at Dutch airline KLM, being replaced by Donny as he did not return to the group.
Roy previously said of his decision to leave, “I wanted to experience the world as myself, with no bodyguards, no promoters, no record company people.”
Now going by the name of Connors on social media, Roy is still enjoying life as a Cabin Attendant, acting as drag queen Crystal Connors between flights.
Busy: Although the Vengaboys have been steadily producing music and touring the world since 2006, they are currently in Australia before returning to the UK
When the Vengaboys returned with new member Donny, they began to re-enter the club scene in 2006.
The band released new singles in 2010 and 2013, before making a Christmas album in November 2014.
While they then supported Steps on their Party on the Dancefloor Tour in November and December 2017.
And now 25 years since they started, The Vengaboys have enjoyed a 25th anniversary tour of Australia before coming to the UK later this year.
