Venezuelan offside decision leaves fans baffled as it’s claimed drawn-on lines ‘CAN’T be real’ – with one line ending up in a block of flats next to the pitch!

  • Puerto Cabello took on Portuguesa in the second match of the season
  • One player thought he had put his team ahead with just a few minutes left
  • Goal disallowed for offside despite an oddly drawn line indicating a foul

Fans were left in an uproar over the hilariously drawn VAR lines in Venezuela’s First Division.

In their second match of the season, last year’s runners-up in the league, Puerto Cabello, took on third-placed team Portuguesa, all in an attempt to quickly gain ground in the standings.

The match was in full swing and it looked like the home side were taking the lead when one of their players fired in a fine cross.

However, the joy was abruptly ended when the linesman immediately flagged for offside, leaving the attacker with his head in his hands.

The analysis found that the TV station itself had drawn a VAR line, sparking anger from fans on social media, who ridiculed the technology.

Footage showed the VAR line was disproportionate and ruled the goalscorer offside, when it was clear he was at least a few metres in front of the defender the line was drawn against.

Originally the line appeared to be in line with the 16-yard box, but it had not been adjusted to accommodate the camera angle relative to the rest of the pitch.

However, the goal failed to materialize and after a difficult match the game ended in 0-0.

“Sometimes it seems like every VAR referee uses that technology,” one fan responded on X, formerly Twitter.

Another wrote: ‘Average VAR rating of the Copa America’, while a third added: ‘That can’t be’, accompanied by a crying emoji.

The goalscorer couldn’t believe it, but in the end the right decision was made despite the strange VAR reaction.

It is assumed that the broadcaster drew the line and that this had no effect on the match, so the decision on offside on the pitch stands.
