Vanessa Williams hints at a Desperate Housewives reunion but admits it will be ‘hard to recreate the magic’ as she attends the Pride of Britain Awards

Vanessa Williams hinted at a Desperate Housewives reunion on Monday night as she discussed the iconic series at the Pride of Britain Awards.

The American actress, 61, admitted that “it would be difficult to recreate the same magic” for a reboot, but she would certainly be open to reuniting with the main cast.

Vanessa played the role of Renee Perry in the hit ABC series alongside Teri Hatcher, Marcia Cross, Felicity Huffman and Eva Longoria.

Speaking to MailOnline, she said: ‘There could possibly be a Desperate Housewives reunion, I’m not sure if there will be a reboot because it was so great and it’s encapsulated in time that it’s hard to remember the same to recreate magic.

“But believe me, if everyone says they’ll do it, I’m sure we’ll make it happen.”

Vanessa further revealed that a reunion could come sooner than fans expect as she contacted her former co-stars to invite them to her opening night at the Devil Wears Prada on the West End later this year.

She continued, “I do speak to the girls, I also spoke to Teri Hatcher last week and I invited her to the opening on December 1st. She’s not available, but we’ll see if any other girls show up.”

Desperate Housewives ran no fewer than eight series from 2004 and followed the close-knit group of women who lived on Wisteria Lane. The series came to an end in 2012.

Vanessa is currently preparing to step into the stilettos of fashion diva Miranda Priestly in the upcoming West End production of The Devil Wears Prada.

The Tony-nominated actress said she is ‘excited’ to take on the role having previously made her West End debut in City Of Angles for a short period before it closed during the 2020 coronavirus lockdown.

The legendary role is based on the 2006 film, in which Meryl Streep plays Miranda as well as Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt.

She told MailOnline: ‘Honestly to perform in London. I did City Of Angels in 2020 and we were doing the previews and Covid stopped the world. I thought, “You’ve got to be kidding me, my West End debut has been thwarted,” so when I heard we were doing it here I jumped at the chance.

“I also love being part of the community here. Becoming Miranda Priestly is a dream. She’s powerful, intense, she commands the stage and it’s amazing to play such an iconic role and I’m very happy to step into those red stilettos.

“I’m ready, we finished our tech run this week and the public will be coming in on Thursday. It’s great to do it in London and the Dominion Theater is a huge theatre.

“People who like the Devil Wears Prada movie will be completely satisfied and there are a lot of people who have never heard of it, but they will be entertained and I’m happy to lead the pack.”

Vanessa looked stunning on the evening as she turned heads in a glamorous suit with purple sequins.

She paired the blazer, with statement shoulder pads, with the matching wide-leg trousers and a pair of sky-high black heels.

Vanessa styled her long blonde locks with a neat, half-updo and paired it with a pair of stylish earrings.

The American star showed off her beautiful smile as she posed for photos on the star-studded red carpet.
