Vanessa Kirby Is Unrecognizable As Josephine Bonaparte In New Poster For Upcoming Biopic Napoleon Starring Joaquin Phoenix
Vanessa Kirby was featured as Josephine Bonaparte in a new poster for the upcoming historical biopic Napoleon, which was released Tuesday.
The 35-year-old artist was unrecognizable in the film’s new promotional material as the wife of the French emperor, who will be played by Joaquin Phoenix.
The actor, who punched his co-star during the production of the feature film, was also seen as the commander in a second poster, showing him dejectedly sitting in a chair.
In January last year, it was announced that Kirby had been added to the cast of the upcoming biopic.
The role of Josephine Bonaparte was originally set to be filled by Jodie Comer, although she had to drop the project due to scheduling issues.

Napoleon focuses on the life of the titular historical figure and will focus heavily on his volatile relationship with Josephine, to whom he was married for nearly twenty years.
The cast of the film is complemented by artists such as Tahar Rahim, Ludivine Sagnier and Ben Miles, among others.
The development of the feature film was revealed to the public in 2020, when the project’s director, Ridley Scott, announced that he was working on a feature film centering on the former emperor of France.
Phoenix signed on to play the title role in October 2020, and the actor serves as one of the film’s producers.
The physical production took place last year at various locations in Europe and the crew was ready after four months of filming.
The feature film’s trailer was first revealed at CinemaCon last April and then released to the public last month.
Scott recently spoke to rich magazine and told the media why he chose Phoenix to star in the film.
He recalled, “I stare at Joaquin and say, ‘This little demon is Napoleon Bonaparte. He looks like him.’

Scott and Phoenix previously worked together in the 2000 historical drama Gladiator, in which the latter played Commodus.
The filmmaker also compared Napoleon to several other historical figures during the interview, but stated that the Emperor was “extraordinary.”
“Listen, he’s got a lot of bad stuff under his belt. At the same time, he was remarkable for his courage, his ability and his dominance,” he said.
Napoleon is currently scheduled to be released in the United States and United Kingdom on November 22.
