When Vanessa learned in April that her show would not be renewed for a fourth season, she expressed her disbelief and confusion on her Instagram Story.

“Bewildered, confused, overwhelmed,” the lead actress wrote above an NCIS: Hawai’i logo at the time.

“Grateful, confident, beloved fans!” the actress who played Special Agent in Charge Jane Tenant said, adding, “Dealing with this news and still being present with my family. I love you all,” ending with the traditional “Mahalo Nui Loa.”

CBS made the announcement just days earlier, dashing the cast and crew’s hopes of naturally ending the franchise with a fourth and final season.

It was the first series in the NCIS franchise to be led by a woman, and the first not to receive a proper send-off.
