Vancouver stabbing leaves ‘multiple’ injured in city’s downtown

Several people have been injured in a stabbing in Vancouver, police said.

Vancouver police said officers responded to a “violent incident” near Robson Street and Hamilton Street in the city’s downtown area on Wednesday just after 3 p.m.

‘A number of people were stabbed and the suspect was shot by the police. We will provide more information as it becomes available,” the department said on X.

The horrific attack took place near the Vancouver Public Library, in an area usually busy with residents and tourists.

Footage posted to social media showed emergency responders rushing into a 7-Eleven store across the street from the library.

A video seen by The Canadian Press shows police pointing their weapons over the counter of a convenience store and shooting at least ten times.

In the video, police can be heard shouting “move over” as several officers pointed their weapons at a target, the outlet said.

Student Mainul Islam, who appears in the video, said police stopped him from entering the store before he witnessed them shoot a man he described as “homeless.”
