He continued, “Life is crazy, kids. It’s just like that. It will rain hellfire on you for years and bring you to your knees… and then the sky will open up to deep blue and love and call someone “Honey” because you just love her so much and feel so very grateful for the gift of that feeling, the gift of hair.”

Goodnough said that amid “a certain bit of gossip,” he decided to “address it head-on” and consult Bertinelli “out of respect” and “contact [her] in question directly to discuss the matter [her] before I wrote this.

Goodnough cited Bertinelli’s impressive reputation over decades in show business, noting her successful TV career in both cooking shows and sitcoms, two Emmys, two Golden Globes and six books.

“The whole thing is crazy,” Goodnough said. ‘Still, now that it was getting out of hand, I thought I should say something about it.’

Goodnough said he and Bertinelli “had a humorous conversation about this whole thing,” and that “she was sweet and warm-hearted and exactly as you would imagine.”

Goodnough said he asked Bertinelli in a very journalistic voice, “Anyway, Mrs. Bertinelli, is the rumor true that you are dating me? Would you like to comment?”

‘She said, ‘It’s true. That’s totally me. You’re my boyfriend.’ Then we both laughed and I said, ‘Wow. You’d think I’d remember something like that.’

Goodnough ended by saying, “Crazy as it may be, the rumor is true. Valerie and I have been together for a while…I guess most of you already knew that. Well, you all do.”

The Touched by an Angel actress opened up about her romance with Goodnough, and how they were connected, earlier this week during an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show Monday.

“He wasn’t supposed to come into my life and here he is, he’s ten years younger,” the Hot in Cleveland star said of her new love, without directly naming him.

“He’d like to think he’s complicated and brooding, but he’s thoughtful, kind and ridiculously talented,” Bertinelli said. ‘He’s a great writer. He’s beautiful, so hot. He does it for me. We all have our type, like he’s just hot.”

Speaking about how she connected with Goodnough via Twitter, Bertinelli said: “I actually started following him on Twitter back in 2016 or 2017.

“He really has a great Twitter following. He’s very funny, very caustic and political at the time. And I started following him. I thought, “There’s something about this guy, I’ve learned more about him.”

She added: “I got a little bit of butterflies when I followed him, and then he stopped following me for two years.”

Bertinelli said they eventually started following each other on Instagram and gradually exchanged DMs.

Goodnough had been with Bertinelli on April 3 when she filmed the talk show in New York City, as she was about to plug her cookbook Indulge.
