Valentine’s Day will soon be upon us once again, but the tide seems to have turned in popularity.

February 14th has earned a bad reputation as a time of misery for singles, inflated prices for couples, and general unnecessary pressure.

In a poll conducted by DailyMail.com today, 73 per cent of readers said they ‘hated’ romantic holidays, and they’re not alone.

In the past, a host of famous faces, including Ashton Kutcher and Gillian Jacobs, have spoken out against the special occasion.

And this year the discontent seems to be reaching a fever pitch with social media awash with calls to abolish the day once and for all.

Earlier this week, Fox News host Julie Banderas sensationally announced she was getting a divorce on live television before vehemently criticizing Valentine’s Day.

The 49-year-old mother of three said: ‘Fuck Valentine’s Day. It’s stupid. Even when I was married, I didn’t get anything for Valentine’s Day… well I’m getting divorced, I’m going to go ahead and say it right here for the first time.

Banderas went on to call Valentine’s a “Hallmark party.”

“It’s stupid, it’s absolutely ridiculous,” he said, before giving advice to the men in the audience on how to give flowers to their loved ones.

She said, ‘By the way guys, if you’re going to buy your girl flowers, don’t bring them in a box, that’s the only advice I have for you.

If you come to me in a box, you better be dead.

The unexpected outburst was reported by DailyMail.com, who decided to probe a broader opinion on Valentine’s Day in a poll.

The results were overwhelming, with 73 percent of participants saying they “hated” romantic vacations. And it’s clear to see why February 14 is so unpopular.

Many consider the day simply a ‘trade holiday’, where the only real winners are big business.

Last year, American consumers spent a total of $23.9 billion on Valentine’s Day gifts, according to a survey by National Retail Federation.

He said the average spend was $175.41 per person and costs are expected to rise further in 2023.

Candy, greeting cards and flowers topped the list of the most popular gift categories in the US.

But all of these have been hit by rising prices caused by inflation, let alone the extra markup added by stores trying to cash in on the occasion.

But for many, the pressure to buy something for their partner still remains.

Ashton Kutcher, Gillian Jacobs and Jane Lynch are among the famous faces who have publicly turned their backs on the holidays in the past.

So on Valentine’s Day, you should tell whoever you hate that you can’t stand it. There would be one day of hate and 364 days of love.’

Actress-director Gillian Jacobs is another high-profile star speaking out against the special occasion.

He previously told Yahoo Entertainment in 2016: “It’s one of those holidays where there’s only expectations, so it can be nothing but disappointment.”

Unless someone gives you a bouquet of diamonds, it will be a disappointment.

Glee alum Jane Lynch also told the publication at the time that Valentine’s Day was “the most ridiculous holiday ever created out of greeting cards.” [companies].’

You can celebrate your love for someone any day.

And a third simply added: “I hate Valentine’s Day like the Grinch hates Christmas.”

What are the origins of Valentine’s Day?

Although Valentine’s life is largely shrouded in mystery, tradition holds that the aged cleric, who was assassinated in AD 273. C., sacrificed his life for love by challenging the ban on marriage imposed by the Roman Emperor Claudius II.

Historians claim that the uncompromising ruler was determined to build a formidable army to defend his empire.

Valentine’s life is largely shrouded in mystery.

He cracked down on lovers marrying because he believed that young men without wives or dependents would be more likely to go to war.

But the early Christian saint defied the edict and secretly held weddings for couples.

The risks were great. Valentine lived at a time when Christians were persecuted and marriage ceremonies were still a new ritual.

Valentine’s matchmaking activities, particularly for soldiers, were eventually exposed and he was imprisoned and tortured by Claudius II.

Legend has it that while he was in jail many young men supported him by throwing flowers at him and passing notes through the prison bars expressing their belief in marriage and love.

And apparently shortly before his death, the cleric fell head over heels in love with his jailer’s blind daughter, Artemias, who miraculously regained his sight.

On February 14, the day of his execution, Valentine sent his beloved a farewell love letter signed ‘from your Valentine’.
