Vader invents a zero-gravity device in his shed that allows the user to jump 20 feet in the air

A Lincolnshire father-of-two has earned a reputation as the UK’s foremost ‘mad inventor’, creating everything from a James Bond car to an entire doomsday tunnel complex in his backyard.

YouTuber Colin Furze, 43, is no stranger to large-scale projects, be it massive rideable weebles or jacuzzi cars, but his latest build is truly out of this world.

Colin’s latest project is a massive anti-gravity swing that allows riders to feel weightless and jump up to 20 feet in the air.

The colossal steel structure was welded by Colin in his bespoke workshop in Lincolnshire – a space he obtained mainly for his most ambitious builds.

MailOnline was invited to take a look at Colin’s home workshop and hand-dug tunnels to find out what makes Britain’s most flamboyant inventor tick.

Be first YouTube career Colin was a plumber by trade, but he told us he had always been curious about how things work and was naturally gifted in mechanics – a skill his father cherished.

He said, I’ve always been passionate about making things, from Lego or mechano when I was younger, developing then.

‘As I got older I got more confident, I even had a lathe that turned metal in my room, because I couldn’t have it in his shed – imagine!

“When I was a plumber I combined my passions and started inventing little tools to help me at work – I’ve always liked to mess with things.”

Colin claims to have been one of YouTube’s early adopters and is now one of the most popular accounts in the UK with 12.4 million subscribers tuning in every week for his latest inventions.

He explained, “I was always riding BMXs and YouTube came along and they sort of combined.

“I’m one of the tallest there is now, but the first thing that made me big was the fastest mobility scooter in the world – that was a crazy build!”

Perhaps Colin’s most famous project is the secret tunnel complex beneath his garden – a massive undertaking that he secretly dug by hand for three years without permission from his council.

This, he says, is one of his most satisfying and frustrating projects at the same time – mainly because of the actual digging itself.

He explained: ‘Anything to do with digging is doing really well on YouTube, I’ve dug tunnels and bunkers.

‘The council to be honest was bloody brilliant when I told them, I did it all in secret to begin with because it’s easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.

“Once it’s done they can come and see if it’s done right, it can be hard to explain to people, they don’t have the mindset of building.

‘People are shocked when I tell them about it, they assume it’s a pit full of roots.

“We did it in stages, because after a while you get pissed off.”

According to his YouTube account, Colin’s “hole in the ground” is now an impressive complex with carpets and an entire open space for entertainment – essentially a new room in his house.

Although he’s not too sure it would add much value to his property.

He said: ‘If I ever moved it would probably help, but some people wouldn’t want to pay extra for a tunnel or a bunker, it’s a niche so it almost becomes a harder sell.

“Preppers would love it, though.”

As Colin’s fame on YouTube grew, he began to branch out into bigger, more ambitious projects, culminating in him moving some of his work into a huge shed that he’d converted into a personalized workshop – complete with the massive technology he had. couldn’t fit in his garden shed.

Explaining the move, Colin said he had initially been hesitant to move to a large venue as it could discourage his fans from building at home.

He said, “I got the shed when it became available. I was hesitant to get a bigger workshop because I always thought the shed was more recognizable.

“If I’m doing something that I want people to copy, I try to keep it cheap.

‘But there are certain structures, such as the anti-gravity machine, for which you need a larger space.

That was about six weeks of work. I came up with the idea just before Christmas. It makes you feel like you’re weightless, like you’re floating around. It has that in-space underwater feel.

“I then work on an off-road vehicle (ATV), it’s like a tank, but it’s NOT a tank, but of course you can’t do that in a shed.”

But as you would expect from a man who built a working James Bond car with flamethrowers, not every build is a great success.

Colin continued: ‘The most annoying thing I ever made was a lawnmower that ran on wood gas, but it was so dirty to clean and it smelled so I put it away forever.

My favorite invention is probably my magnetic shoes, because I can walk upside down on the ceiling of my workshop. That was great – they only cost £20.’
