The unidentified woman was attacked in her own backyard on October 31 by a pack of seven pit bulls – a male, a female and their five puppies.

While she was being attacked, she called Taylorsville police for help. When officers arrived on scene, the victim was still surrounded by the pack.

Rescuers were forced to use pepper spray on the dogs to push them back and treat the woman.

Officials confirmed that she suffered serious injuries to her face, hands and leg and that doctors were forced to amputate her leg to have a chance of survival.

It is not known why the dogs attacked her and police have begun investigating possible reasons. Police confirmed the male dog and puppies were euthanized after the attack.
