A post about US women’s national team midfielder Korbin Albert has sparked divided reactions due to previous posts being deemed homophobic and transphobic.
The post on the official account of the US women’s national soccer team, which was apparently not based on anything Albert did on the field Saturday, showed the midfielder with the ball and biting her gold medal.
Albert’s previous posts have divided fans, with many people not accepting the midfielder because of her past behavior.
The (now deleted) posts Albert shared were reposts from a Christian prayer room discussing how wrong it is to be gay and “feel transgender.”
Albert, who is seen as a rising star on the women’s national team, has previously posted similar content to her profile, including a now-deleted post on her TikTok account from the Fourth of July weekend in which she shows her family and says “their pronouns are US.”

She previously also revealed that she liked a post on Instagram, which was revealed via a screenshot of a meme that read, “God takes a break and works miracles to make sure Megan Rapinoe sprains her ankle in her last ever game.”
Rapinoe tore her Achilles tendon in the third minute of the 2023 NWSL Championship match and watched her team, OL Reign, lose to Gotham FC on penalty kicks.
USWNT coach Emma Hayes has previously publicly defended her selection to the Olympic team. Albert has since apologized for her messages, admitting they were “sensitive and hurtful.”
However, fans demanded a change from Albert, which has not yet been fully made public.
That is why many are still against her after the apology and that has led to many reactions that could be seen on Saturday afternoon.
“I can’t even support her until she shows she’s unlearned her narrow-minded views,” one user wrote on Twitter.
“She has shown absolutely no work,” posted a second user. “Every second that passes without her actually addressing the damage raises further questions about the moral center of this team. Every second deepens the insult and injury. And that’s before we get to ‘scratch a transphobe, bleed a racist.'”
“Congrats on normalizing hate and bigotry,” another responded. “Remember how she also celebrated and mocked a serious injury to one of this team’s most legendary players?? Yeah. Get this garbage off the USWNT. It’s a disgrace.”
Most of the reactions and comments were negative after messages Albert had posted earlier
“You guys can try whatever you want. We don’t like her, she’s a bigot. And every time she shows up the shit is annoying. She’s not even that good,” another posted.
“Look at the US national team promoting a player who believes gay people should undergo conversion therapy and finds it funny that her colleagues are hurt by it,” said another.
But there were also a few messages (admittedly, much less) in support of Albert in this tweet.
“The comments and quotes are disgusting. Give people the same grace to learn and grow as the rest of us who aren’t under a microscope,” one person wrote.
Another said: ‘Haters gonna hate but she did give the decisive assist so’.
Other posts called Albert the goat or a ‘future [goat emoji]’ too.
Albert performed well at the Olympics, scoring a goal against Australia and her long ball to Mallory Swanson led to the gold medal-winning goal against Brazil.
