Usain Bolt revealed he suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon after being taken off on a stretcher during Soccer Aid.
Bolt captained Mauricio Pochettino’s World XI side at Stamford Bridge in the annual charity match to raise money for UNICEF.
England went into the match having suffered defeats in their last five Soccer Aid matches, but got off to a perfect start on Sunday as Joe Cole put them ahead with a vintage finish.
But Bolt didn’t have to wait long before he made his first impact on the game.
The 37-year-old was heading towards goal before finding himself on the receiving end of a brutal tackle from actor Danny Dyer on the edge of the penalty area.

Bolt appeared uncomfortable during the match but insisted he wanted to continue playing
Eden Hazard stepped up to take the ensuing free-kick and equalized for World XI, wrong-footing David James with a curling strike along the wall.
Bolt was again at the center of the action shortly afterwards as he made a deft turn in the penalty area to set up Alessandro Del Piero, who converted from close range.
However, England remained resilient and after a stunning move from Jack Wilshere, Ellen White showed her poacher’s instincts have not deserted her in retirement as she became the first female goalscorer in the event’s history.
After the famous goalkeepers were introduced at half-time, the teams wasted little time testing their skills, with Dragons Den star Steven Bartlett making it 3-2 to England.
As the match progressed, Bolt appeared to be struggling with an injury, but he appeared to walk to his team’s bench where he was determined to continue playing.
England’s momentum continued to build throughout the second half and Jermain Defoe surged forward as Bolt dropped back in an attempt to stop the former England striker.
Before he could intervene, however, Bolt fell, clutching his leg and then had to be carried away on a stretcher by medical staff.
In a post on social media after the match, the football-loving sprinter revealed he had suffered a serious injury.

“Achilles recorded, but we do not know that we are a warrior.” Bolt wrote X next to a photo of himself on crutches.
Defoe would score his goal just after the hour mark, before Tommy Wingrove hit back from the penalty spot.
However, the damage had already been done and Bartlett added a second to his tally in a player-of-the-match winning display as England won 6-3 to be crowned Soccer Aid champions for the first time since 2018.
