USA v South Africa: T20 Cricket World Cup – live

Key events

Preamble

James Wallace

In Pythagorean numerology it represents the number eight victory, prosperity and overcoming. you knew that of course. The US cricket team clearly did that.

Hello and welcome to the OBO of the first match of the Super Eights in this T20 World Cup. Pakistan is on a plane home despite the timing of this match being reserved by the ICC for prime time in the subcontinent. That’s saying something: No one really expected the US to still be in business, but they are, and they were one of the most exciting teams to watch during the tournament. They brushed Canada aside, held their nerve against Pakistan and even caused a few wobbles in the mighty Indian batting line-up.

South Africa is their opponent today, the Proteas have won all their matches… but not without incident. Having played three of their four matches on the tricky New York wicket, they have had a few scares along the way. Reduced to 12 for 4 chasing 104 against the Dutch and winning by just four runs against Bangladesh and even squeaker – by one point – against Nepal.

The Antigua pitch should be a bit more accommodating to the hitters, but will by no means be a road. Let’s hope for a cracker to kick off the next phase of the tournament.

The game starts in just over half an hour – 10.30am local time/3.30pm BST. If you sign up, feel free to drop me a line via email or @Jimbo_Cricket.
