USA thrashed 5-1 by Colombia in DISASTER for Gregg Berhalter’s men before the Copa America
The USMNT were defeated 5-1 by Colombia in what ended up being a disaster-friendly match for Gregg Berhalter’s men before the start of the Copa America later this month.
The Star and Stripes looked embarrassed in front of their own fans in none other than the nation’s capital, Washington DC, on Saturday as they held the score at 2-1 until the 77th minute.
Until then, the US – ranked No. 11 in the FIFA world rankings – had dreamed of a comeback from 2-0 down against the team just one place below them (No. 12), when Juventus star Timothy Weah pulled a goal back. after Jhon Arias (6′) and Rafael Borré (19′) scored for the Colombians in the first half.
But three quick goals in less than 13 minutes from Colombians Richard Rios (77′), Jorge Carrascal (85′) and Luis Sinisterra (88′) shocked the home side ahead of their first Copa America group match against Bolivia on June 23.
The US will need to improve dramatically before then, starting with a friendly against no other team than Brazil, currently ranked No. 5 in the world and a potential opponent in the knockout stages of the Copa America, on Wednesday, June 12.
