USA basketball survives STUNNING scare from Serbia at 2024 Olympics

After trailing by 17 points, the US basketball team needed a desperate comeback to beat Serbia and advance to the gold medal game against France, winning 95-91.

The Americans were down 13 points at the start of the fourth quarter, but came back to tie the game. In the final period, they took the lead and secured the victory.

Steph Curry led the way for the United States with 36 points, eight rebounds and two assists.

Joel Embiid scored 19 points and LeBron James scored 16 points. James also grabbed eight rebounds and dished out seven assists.

The comeback victory provided the final game basketball fans were hoping for as the American Dream Team took on an inspired France on Saturday.

Thanks to an enthusiastic home crowd, France won a thrilling match against Germany 73-69.

Led by Victor Wembanyama, the No. 1 pick in the NBA draft, France hopes to end the United States’ dominance in this event.

The US has won gold in basketball at the last four Olympic Games – and at all but one since 1992.

However, that streak was largely threatened on Thursday evening.

Trailing by eight points in the fourth quarter, Devin Booker made a deep three-pointer to cut the deficit to five points with just over seven minutes left.

The game was back and forth until Embiid was fouled after scoring a basket, making it four points with exactly five minutes left.

Embiid would answer the call again, making a fadeaway jumper to make it 2 points with 4:22 left.

James drove the ball over the line and tied the score with a nice layup, completing his comeback with plenty of time left.

The game remained close, but a late jump shot from Kevin Durant and two free throws from Curry decided the game.

It was a 19-point night from Joel Embiid and a 16-point effort from LeBron on Thursday night

Overall, the United States went from trailing in the first three quarters to outscoring Serbia 31-15 in the fourth quarter to clinch the victory.

Serbia was led by Bogdan Bogdanovic, who scored 20 points, four rebounds and three assists.

Nikola Jokic scored 17 points, grabbed five rebounds and dished out 11 assists to finish as the second-leading scorer, while Aleksa Avramovic had 15 points.

The United States will play France on Saturday in the battle for the gold medal, hoping to win their fifth consecutive Olympic title.
