The US is out of the Basketball World Cup after losing 113-111 to Germany in the semi-finals.

The Americans trailed Germany by as many as twelve in the fourth quarter, but cut the Germans’ lead to just one with 1:35 remaining.

However, a step back from three on Andreas Obst’s next possession gave the Germans a four-point lead that they ultimately were unwilling to relinquish.

Anthony Edwards led the way for the Americans with 23 points, while Austin Reaves had 21 and Mikal Bridges added 17.

Obst, who plays for Bayern Munich, had a team-high 24 points for Germany, while Orlando Magic’s Franz Wagner had 22.

Daniel Theis had 21, while Dennis Schroeder threw in 17.

The United States and Canada will play in the third-place match on Sunday.

Germany will face Serbia in the final.
