An American tourist visiting Rome plunged 100 feet to his death after climbing on the roof of a hotel in the Italian capital, authorities say.

Javier Francisco Rullan Rubert, 31, of Lithia in Tampa, Florida, had been staying at the IH Roma Z3 Hotel in Collatino, Via Claudio Truffi for several days on vacation.

On Monday afternoon around 4:30 p.m., hotel employees found him lying on the floor in a pool of his own blood after he fell from the ceiling.

According to Il Messaggerothe forensic team confirmed to police officers that he “died instantly” and was alone when he climbed onto the roof of the skyscraper.

An American tourist from Lithia in Tampa, Florida, who was visiting Rome, fell 30 meters from the top floor of the IH Roma Z3 in Collatino, Rome on Monday, authorities say.

On Monday afternoon around 4:30 p.m., hotel employees found him lying on the floor in a pool of his own blood after he fell from the ceiling.

Police detectives and forensic teams have begun an investigation that consists of reconstructing the man’s last days and establishing any potential contacts he made in that time.

Some of the man’s personal items, including his mobile phone, were seized by officers for analysis.

He did not leave a note for family and friends, so officials are rushing to contact his relatives to better determine the course of events that led to his death.
