US student, 19, was ‘drugged and gang-raped’ on beach in Italy as two 20-year-olds are investigated

Two 20-year-olds are under investigation after an American student was given ‘date rape drugs’ before being raped on an Italian beach.

The 19-year-old US citizen claims the attack took place during a party in the seaside resort of Punta Marina – close to the city of Ravenna in northern Italy – on the night of August 25.

It is understood the investigation is now focusing on two 20-year-olds as Italian authorities try to determine whether a date rape drug was used on the woman.

Corriera Della Seraan Italian news site, reported that the young woman, who was in Italy as part of a cultural exchange, first confided in her host family’s mother before calling her own family in the United States.

She then visited a nearby hospital where she was examined before immediately returning to America.

The young woman is protected by lawyer Angelo Stirone. The investigations are coordinated by prosecutor Lucrezia Ciriello.

Meanwhile, two suspects are being defended by lawyers Giovanni Scudellari and Maria Teresa Rizzo

That was reported earlier CCTV footage from clubs in the seaside resort will be examined for evidence.
