US Soldier Who Was Missing For 10 Days When His Transgender Wife Died Has Already Been Cleared

A US soldier, 23, who disappeared to return a day after his transgender wife was found dead in their military home, has been cleared as a person of interest.

Spc. Craig Chamberlain, 23, is a soldier from Fort Cavazos (formerly Fort Hood) who, unbeknownst to his wife, stopped showing up in March.

On May 15, after lying for two months about his reporting at the Texas military base, he left their home in Killeen and did not return.

Craig’s wife, Cameron, reported him missing to the police and base. She was found dead in their home on May 25 – Craig returned “covered in bruises” a day later, according to his parents.

The US military has launched an investigation, but has now ruled that Craig was not involved, despite the autopsy not yet being completed.

In a statement to DailyMail.com, the Department of the Army Criminal Investigation Division said, “At this point in the investigation, Spc. Craig Chamberlain has no interest in her death.’

Cam Chamberlain reported her husband missing on May 15. She was found dead in the couple's home on May 25.

Craig Chamberlain was found on May 26, one day after his wife was found dead and ten days after he disappeared from home. Cam Chamberlain reported her husband missing on May 15. She was found dead in the couple’s home on May 25.

The couple got married in October 2020 after meeting on a dating app. They moved in together in a house not far from the base.

The department explained that “special agents from the Central Texas Field Office of the Army Criminal Investigation Division are working with Detectives from the Killeen Police Department on the death investigation of Cameron Chamberlain.

Add: “The official cause of death and manner of death will not be determined until the autopsy report is released.”

Formerly called Fort Hood, Fort Cavazos has suffered a number of murders and deaths in recent years – including the brutal beating of housemaid Vanessa Guillen – that have taken place on its premises.

Earlier this year, the military opened an investigation into the death of 21-year-old Fort Hood engineer Ana Basalduaruiz, who told her mother she had been sexually harassed by her superior.

The latest tragedy has put the troubled base back in the spotlight.

On May 15, after lying for two months about his reporting at the Texas military base, he left their home in Killeen and did not return.

On May 25, she was found dead in their home. Craig resurfaced in the area the next day. It remains unclear how Cameron died, or where specifically Craig was found.

Since she died in their home, the military is leading the investigation and the Killeen police are diverting all inquiries.

Cameron made desperate pleas to find her husband when he was first reported missing.

The couple got married in October 2020 after meeting on a dating app. They moved in together in a house not far from the base.

On May 15, Cameron reported Craig missing to the local police.

In her statement, she said he left her no money and missed so many car payments that their vehicle was repossessed.

She begged him to return safely to her like his parents, and was shocked to learn that he hadn’t shown up for work in months.

In an interview at the time, she said Fort Cavazos only told her he hadn’t gone to work when she reported him missing to the police.

On May 25, Cam’s death was confirmed by Fort Cavazos, but no one confirmed the cause of death, nor did they reveal what led to her discovery.

The next day, Craig Chamberlain was found in the area by a ‘civil squad’.

It is unclear where he is now.

When he was found, his parents said he had “bruises” on his body.

Cam’s friends fear she has become suicidal after being left alone by her husband with no money to pay for food.

‘I have nothing to eat. I have asked so-called friends for some money for groceries through the cash app and no one can be bothered.

“The army told me they can’t do anything. I’m suicidal,” she said in a text message to a friend.

Craig’s parents have not publicly discussed her death, nor have they discussed their relationship.

The soldier in hiding has also not yet spoken publicly about where he was.
