US retailers confirmed another 169 closures last week, bringing the total so far this year to almost 2,600.

Stores that announced location closures included Express, Outfox Hospitality, Shop ‘n Save, Urban Outfitters and Walmart.

Physical stores in shopping malls, strip centers, city centers and on the main streets of cities are threatened by online stores and changing tastes.

The closures affected 33 Foxtrots and two Dom’s Grocery Stores in Chicago, Austin and the Washington DC area.

The retailer, whose portfolio of brands also includes Bonobos and UpWest, lists assets and liabilities between $1 billion and $10 billion, according to a filing in Delaware bankruptcy court.

As part of the bankruptcy process, the company said it would close approximately 95 Express stores and all 12 of its UpWest stores.
