Matt Fitzpatrick will look to successfully defend his US Open title as the third wave major of the year returns this week.

The Englishman shared the lead overnight going into the final day and would eventually finish one shot above Will Zalatoris and Scottie Scheffler.

Fitzpatrick became only the third Englishman since 1924 to win this title, after Tony Jacklin in 1970 and Justin Rose in 2013.

Leading up to this year’s tournament, Masters champion Jon Rahm will be looking to continue his victory in Augusta as Scheffler aims to take it one step further after narrowly missing out on the title last year.

With the US Open returning, how can you watch the action and when is it? Mail Sport provides the answers below.

Matt Fitzpatrick believes he doesn’t think his ‘game’ is as good as it was last year heading into the US Open

What was said?

Heading into this week’s action, Fitzpatrick revealed that while his game is improving, he doesn’t think it’s in the same spot it was 12 months ago when he won the tournament.

“I feel like the start of the year, obviously I had a good first event in Hawaii and then got injured, and that felt like it set me back quite a bit for February and March,” said Fitzpatrick.

“In the end, I clearly played well in April.

“I feel like my game is coming in the right place. I was definitely looking forward to Memorial and last week I was playing golf. Last week I didn’t score too well per se, but I had another slight flare-up on Friday afternoon with my neck.

“I definitely feel like my game is in better shape. I certainly don’t think it’s as good as last year.’
