US Open 2024: final round – live

Key events

It will be a while before we see what Bryson, Rory, Patrick and Matthieu throw at us. So what about the early game so far at Pinehurst? Scottie Scheffler was the big favorite coming into this week, but he only just reached the number limit (+5). A 1-over 71 in round three confirmed he would be among the also-rans this week, so can he at least go out on a high today? He plays the first with young Irishman Tom McKibbin and has a 25-footer for birdie after finding the green. As it stands, world No. 1 Scheffler is +6, 13 behind DeChambeau’s lead and tied for 43rd. His birdie putt looks in, but somehow ends up behind the back of the hole. A summary of his weekly moment.

Preamble

It’s the last round at Pinehurst! And what a day we have in store. Will Rory McIlroy win his first major in 10 (ten!) years? Can Matthieu Pavon become the first Frenchman to win a major since Arnaud Massey at the 1907 Open at Royal Liverpool? Will Patrick Cantlay follow recent US PGA winner and great friend Xander Schauffele by joining the majors club? These three are all at -4 and tied for second place, but this week, so far at least, has been Bryson DeChambeau’s show. The 2020 US Open winner was charming both on court and with the TV audience, kicking out yesterday with a 67 to leave him three ahead at -7. Can someone land him or will Bryson destroy the field like he did four years ago at Winged Foot when he won by six? Let the story unfold…

First, here’s what the top of the leaderboard looked like after 54 holes…

-7: DeChambeau
