US military personnel carry out helicopter strike on senior ISIS leader in Syria responsible for planning terror attacks in the Middle East and Europe – the second attack on a warlord in the region in two weeks

A US central command spokesman said the US military targeted a senior ISIS leader during a helicopter attack in northeastern Syria.
Central Command (CENTCOM) revealed on Twitter that US forces carried out a helicopter strike into northern Syria early this morning.
The target was a senior leader of ISIS Syria and operational planner responsible for planning terror attacks in the Middle East and Europe.
CENTCOM said the targeted person was ‘probably’ killed and two other armed individuals were also killed in the raid.
It added that no US troops were injured and no US helicopters were damaged.

According to CENTCOM’s assessment, no civilians were killed or injured in the raid.
General Michael ‘Erik’ Kurilla, a CENTCOM commander, said: ‘Although ISIS is downgraded, it remains capable of conducting operations in the region with a desire to attack beyond the Middle East. We will continue the relentless campaign against ISIS.”
Colonel Joe Buccino said: ‘This operation reaffirms CENTCOM’s steadfast commitment to the region and the enduring defeat of ISIS.’
Buccino promised that CENTCOM would provide additional details shortly.
The identities of the alleged senior leader and the target have not yet been revealed.
He also said no US troops were injured and no US helicopters were shot down in the attack.
As part of the ongoing US campaign to defeat ISIS in Syria and Iraq and prevent the terror organization from growing again, the US military captured an ISIS operative and two of his associates in eastern Syria a week ago during a new helicopter attack.
On April 3, a US drone strike in Syria killed a senior ISIS leader responsible for planning attacks in Europe, CENTCOM announced.
It confirmed that the Khalid operation has knocked out Aydd Ahmad al-Jabouri – which will now “temporarily disrupt the organization’s ability to plan external attacks.”
The terrorist was responsible for planning attacks in Europe and developing the leadership structure for ISIS, the US Department of Defense command said.
According to local media, he was reportedly talking on the phone on the outskirts of the town of Killi, in Syria’s Idlib province, when he was attacked by a Hellfire missile.
General Michael Kurilla said ISIS “continues to pose a threat to the region and beyond.”
“While downgraded, the group remains capable of conducting operations in the region with the desire to strike outside the Middle East.”
No civilians were killed or injured in this attack, CENTCOM said in its statement.
The attack was the latest in a series of attacks in recent years targeting al-Qaeda-affiliated militants and senior members of the Islamic State terror group in northwestern Syria.
