US man dies ‘after assault’ at celebrity favourite luxury hotel in Ireland where Kim Kardashian and Kanye West honeymooned

A man has been found dead on the bathroom floor of a luxury five-star hotel in Ireland after allegedly being attacked, police say.

The US national, in his 60s, was found unconscious at the popular Ballyfin Demesne hotel on Tuesday evening before being pronounced dead.

Local authorities have arrested a man in his 30s who was traveling with the American and is believed to have been on holiday at the time of the incident.

Police say the death was caused by a ‘fatal assault’ and have launched an investigation. No charges have been reported at this time.

Set on a 614-hectare estate near the Slieve Bloom mountains, the Ballyfin Demesne is a popular destination for many celebrities.

Gardai (Irish Police) said they were called to the hotel shortly before 8pm local time last night.

Neither the victim nor the suspect have been named.

The services of the Garda Technical Bureau and the Office of the State Pathologist have been requested, authorities said.

Gardai are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the death and have set up an ‘incident room’ in Portlaoise.

Hollywood actor Dominic West revealed that Kanye West and Kim Kardashian were staying in Portlaoise when they were sent away from his mother-in-law’s castle in May 2014, per LaoisLive.

The couple stayed at the Ballyfin Demesne, based at Glin and owned at the time by an American.

“I’m not sure they had a great time. They went to see a movie in the town of Portlaoise, which isn’t exactly glamorous,” Dominic said.

Kim and Kanye married in Italy in May 2014 before traveling to Ireland for a honeymoon at a then-undisclosed location, later identified as Ballyfin Demesne.

The couple filed for divorce in 2021 and finalized their divorce in November 2022.
