America’s Best Secret Beaches REVEALED: Three of the top five are in Hawaii, but bays in Florida, New Jersey and California also rank high
- A new list of the best secret beaches in the US has been published
- The list ranks numerous spots in Hawaii, Florida, California, and New Jersey
A new list has highlighted some of the best secret beaches in the United States, with Hawaii, Florida, New Jersey and California coming out on top.
The ranking, published by Family destination guidefound that the best spot is Awahua Beach, Hawaii, located on the Molokai Kalaupapa Peninsula.
The ocean paradise is only accessible by small commuter plane through Mokulele Airlines, which flies daily from O’ahu and Ho’olehua, Molokai. According to the National Park Service, the trail leading to the beach is “extremely steep and challenging with uneven surfaces.”
Two other Hawaiian beaches – Lanikai Beach and Kauapea Beach – followed in third and fourth place, respectively.
The second place on the list went to Shell Key Preserve in Florida, while the fifth spot is Sedge Island, New Jersey. Florida also took the numbers six and number 10.
California’s Salt Creek Beach and Wildcat Beach claimed the final two spots in the top 10 ranking, coming in at number eight and number nine.

For its reasoning, Family Destinations Guide stated that Awahua Beach took the number one spot thanks to its “crystal clear turquoise water and soft, white sand.’
In addition, the upper beach is surrounded by cliffs and greenery. The waters of this secluded beach are perfect for that too swimming and snorkeling.
Shell Key Preserve won the number two spot because of its ‘pristine and natural’ environment with no developments or buildings in sight.
The fifth beach – Sedge Island, New Jersey – is only accessible by boat and offers wildlife including nnesting birds and crabs.
Sedge Island, unlike many other beaches in New Jersey, also does not have a boardwalk or commercial development that can bring crowds.
However, the list does not only contain the well-known picturesque idea of white sand and clear water.
Bowling Ball Beach in California is notorious for the massive, rounded rocks that line the sand and give the shoreline a unique experience.
Located on the Gulf of Alaska, Lowell Point Beach – 120 miles south of Anchorage – is surrounded by massive forestry and is in the eye of snow-capped mountains.
Driftwood Beach on Georgia’s Jekyll Island has large pieces of driftwood along and rising from the sand.
Likewise, the number 10 spot, Boneyard Beach, also has chunks of wood scattered around the shore.
