The daughter of revered former President John F. Kennedy, she made a low-key appearance at the motorsports festival in Canberra on Sunday, where she rubbed shoulders with everyday Aussies and posed for photos with mullet-wearing revheads.
This year, 100,000 car enthusiasts turned out and enjoyed burnout competitions, drift rides and special performances by various stars during the four-day event.
But Mrs. Kennedy’s visit was not promoted by the organizers, nor was it part of some embarrassing public relations exercise.
The Washington woman in Canberra embraced Summernats as a matter of course, meeting the Dirty Mullet Fest entrants and raving about the burnout championship.

Ms Kennedy called her visit to Summernats “a great day to learn about Aussie cars and hairstyles”.
Photos and video posted on the official page of the US Embassy show her laughing and smiling as she enthusiastically films the hotrod smoke on the track.
The normally dapper diplomat even nailed the dress code, appearing in a long-sleeved black T-shirt, jeans and happily donning a Summernats cap while waving a ‘hang’ hand sign in photos with motorsports lovers.
Ms. Kennedy also met some of the mechanics and also took photos of the cars she liked.
His team posted on social media that they had a “great time” at the event, which ran from January 5-8 at the Canberra Exhibition Park.
His highlights were the Dirty Mullet Fest, “especially getting to know some of the participants, including Kyle, who was shaving his delicious mullet to raise money for the Leukemia Foundation.”
She called it “a great day learning about Aussie cars and hair styling with new friends.”
Ms. Kennedy was confirmed as the new US Ambassador to Australia in June and took office in July.
Ms. Kennedy hugged Summernats as a matter of course, posed with the Dirty Mullet Fest contestants and watched the exhaustion championship while laughing out loud.

It’s not Ms Kennedy’s first brush with true Australian culture.
In her brief tenure thus far, she’s joined Aboriginal dancers, attended the Parkes Elvis Festival, driven a S***box Rally car and eaten a Bunnings sausage sandwich (which she paid for herself).
