Uruguayan star José Giménez could face a FIFTEEN match ban as new video emerges of him NUKING the FIFA competitions director in the back of the head before calling referees ‘thieves’ and ‘ sons of bitches’
Jose Gimenez could be suspended for 15 matches after video showed the Uruguayan defender elbowing FIFA’s competition director in the back of the head after his World Cup elimination.
Tensions were high after Uruguay’s match with Ghana, in which the CONMEBOL team exited the competition with goals scored after South Korea’s victory over Portugal.
As angry Uruguay players and officials surrounded the referee, a video has been revealed shows Giménez of Atlético de Madrid elbowing the FIFA competition director in the back of the head.

Video evidence after Uruguay’s departure showed Giménez hitting a referee with his elbow.
According to the footage, the defender may have attacked FIFA’s director of competitions in the melee as players surrounded the referee and assistants as they entered the tunnel after the match.
In a later video, he was also seen taking aim at the referee at the 2022 World Cup. The 27-year-old said: ‘They [the referees] they’re all a gang of thieves these sons of bitches. Yes record me. Son of a bitch.
The video rant might come with a three-game suspension, but the melee in which he assaulted an official comes at a far greater cost to his playing time.
Mundo Deportivo reports that Giménez could face a 15-game suspension, or a season out of football for an ‘appropriate’ period of time, if the incident is reported.
The elbowing is classified as a form of aggression, although it is unclear if he would have to miss 15 games for Uruguay or if the suspension would carry over to the second half of the season with his club, Atlético Madrid.
It is unclear if Giménez’s punishment, if awarded, would carry over to Atlético Madrid matches.
When Luis Suárez was banned for three months in 2014, FIFA issued the sanction to prevent him from aligning with his country or his club at the time, Barcelona.
The offense is also punishable by a minimum fine of 5,000 Swiss francs (£4,343), which is quadrupled if committed through the media or social media, and Giménez knew he was being filmed at the time.
Uruguay were frustrated that they did not receive a penalty against Ghana, and had a controversial call against them when they lost 2-0 to group winners Portugal.

His departure sparked emotional scenes late in the match, including Luis Suarez crying as the captain failed to prevent his country’s early departure from Qatar, as previously reported by Sportsmail.
Diego Simeone’s Atlético Madrid currently sit outside the top four in La Liga on goal difference, and they are worried about missing out on Champions League football, especially if they are forced to play without Giménez, who joined to the club in 2013.
