Urgent recall of popular milk brand across 27 states over potentially deadly contamination

A popular milk brand has issued an emergency recall in 27 states due to possible traces of almonds.

Lactaid Milk, made by Massachusetts-based HP Hood LLC, may contain a “potential or undeclared allergen” not listed on the labels, according to an FDA recall.

The brand was recalled on September 20 due to traces that could pose a serious or life-threatening hazard to people with nut or almond allergies who consume the product.

According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the recall applies to a limited number of 96-oz. plastic containers of refrigerated Lactaid milk.

The affected products were shipped between September 5 and September 18 to retailers and wholesalers in 27 states, including: Alabama, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Minnesota, Montana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming.

In the UK, around 60 products from major food retailers have been recalled due to possible peanut contamination.

Food retailers including Domino’s, Aldi and Spare have recalled products containing mustard powder believed to contain traces of peanuts.

The recall began after a customer complained online of an “itchy mouth” after eating one of Domino’s dips, Sky News reported.

The affected products do not have the allergen listed in the ingredients list; customers should check the code on the packaging to determine if the product is contaminated.

The contaminated product has a code on the packaging of ’51-4109 P2′, combined with specific ‘best before’ dates

The contamination was discovered during routine maintenance programs, the FDA said, and the contaminated product’s packaging bears a code of “51-4109 P2,” coupled with specific “best before” dates found on the packaging. US FDA website.

There are currently no reported cases of illness and authorities have stated that customers who purchased the affected product can return it to the store where they purchased it for a full refund or exchange.

Consumers can also call Hood Consumer Affairs at 800-242-2423, weekdays from 9 a.m. ET to 5 p.m. ET.

Earlier this month, another recall was issued of a popular macaroni and cheese product, which retails for about $4.19, due to a broken refrigerator.

The 12oz packages of the product were recalled after they were sold in stores including Target and Safeway in California, Illinois, Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota.

Dailymail.com reported that the recall has been classified as a Class II risk, meaning the product “may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health effects or is unlikely to cause serious adverse health effects,” according to the Food and Drug Administration.
