Urgent recall of 567k Costco products is issued after two homes catch fire

Costco has recalled 567,000 portable battery chargers from stores across America.

There have been 120 reports of the device overheating during use, including two very serious cases causing house fires.

The recall affects three models of the myCharge Power Hub All-In-One 10,000 mAh Portable Charger.

Users should immediately stop using the devices, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) said. Customers will receive a free replacement from myCharge.

The chargers, which cost about $40, were sold at Costco stores and online from January 2022 to November 2023.

Of the 120 reports of problems, myCharge received five – “including two reports of residential fires that resulted in approximately $165,000 in reported property damage.”

Costco received 115 returns of portable chargers that “melted, expanded, smoked, burned, burned, exploded or sparked.”

There have been no reports of injuries requiring medical attention.

Users should not simply throw the batteries in the trash, or even in the battery recycling boxes found in some stores.

“These potentially dangerous batteries should be treated differently from other batteries,” the committee said.

myCharge can be reached Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM ET at (888) 251-2026 or by email at compliance@mycharge.com. Customers get free replacement.
