Urgent nationwide recall on 70 ice cream products including Hershey’s over deadly listeria link
Food watchdogs have recalled more than 70 ice cream brands after tests showed they may have been contaminated with listeria.
Following the discovery, Maryland-based Totally Cool ceased production and distribution of all its ice cream-based products.
Treats involved include Friendly’s ice cream cakes and Hershey’s ice cream cones.
Listeria can kill young children, seniors or people with weak immune systems, according to the FDA notice.
The affected products were shipped across America. For a while they were available in stores and for direct delivery to people’s homes.
You can find the full list of products here. Customers who have them should return them for a full refund or throw them away immediately.

Totally Cool makes products for brands and supermarkets – on long-term deals and on shorter terms where it intervenes to help with peaks in demand.
For example, Taharka Brothers Ice Cream, one of the affected brands, asked Totally Cool to step in for a production run of two of its most popular flavors, Honey Graham and Key Lime.
“While no listeria has been found in our ice cream, or in the ice cream produced at Totally Cool, out of an abundance of caution, the FDA is requiring a full recall,” Taharka said in a statement. a statement on Facebook.
The company has now resumed production of the two flavors at its own factory.
As of June 24, no illnesses associated with the recalled products have been reported.

People who are otherwise healthy and become infected with the bacteria may suffer from high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea.
Pregnant women are particularly vulnerable to listeria because it can cause miscarriages and stillbirths.
Symptoms usually begin within 24 hours of consumption and can last for days or weeks depending on the severity of the infection.
Cases of Listeria are extremely rare in the US, with past outbreaks usually linked to the distribution of unpasteurized milk and cheese, ice cream, raw fruits and vegetables, as well as undercooked meat, according to the FDA.
The CDC estimates that 1,600 people contract listeriosis every year, of which 260 die from the disease.
