Urgent manhunt is launched for prisoner after he escaped jail: ‘Do not approach’

A manhunt is underway for a prisoner who escaped from a north Queensland penitentiary.

Tyrone Emanual Massey, 24, who is serving a five-year prison sentence for armed robbery, fled Townsville Correctional Centre on Saturday.

Police are warning the public not to approach Massey, who is described as an Aboriginal man, approximately 165cm tall, with a slim build, short brown hair and brown eyes.

Massey has several notable facial tattoos, including “Menace” below his right eye and “Loyalty” above his left eye.

He also has tattoos on his left leg and both arms.

Police believe Massey is in the Townsville area and should not be approached.

“If you see this man or know where he is, please contact triple zero (000) immediately,” Queensland Police said in a statement.
