Urgent egg recall: full list of brands affected by salmonella scare
The full list of egg brands that have been urgently recalled over salmonella concerns has been revealed.
Six different suppliers in Canada were affected by the possibility of the bacteria contaminating their products.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) recalled Golden Valley, Compliments, Foremost, IGA, No Name and Western Family eggs on Saturday, January 18.
The recall applies to different packaging and sizes of eggs.
Only certain egg lot numbers are affected and a full list of these lot numbers is available on the CFIA website.
The agency warned that people should not consume, serve, use, sell or distribute the affected products.
It recommended throwing away eggs that may be contaminated with salmonella or returning them to the store where they were purchased, even if they appear normal.
The CFIA website states: “Food contaminated with Salmonella may not look or smell spoiled, but it can still make you sick.”

Salmonella is a type of bacteria that lives in the intestines of animals and humans and can cause food poisoning.
Animal products, such as raw meat, unpasteurized milk, undercooked poultry and eggs, are the most likely foods to carry the bacteria.
Fruits and vegetables can also become contaminated by fertilizers used on crops.
According to the Mayo Clinic, symptoms of salmonella include diarrhea, stomach cramps, fever, vomiting, nausea, chills, headache and bloody stools.
Most people get rid of the disease on their own within a few days, but if symptoms persist or are accompanied by dehydration or high fever, it is advisable to consult a doctor.
In the US, the FDA last month upgraded a recall of Costco eggs to the highest risk level due to salmonella fears.
On November 27, Handsome Brook Farms issued a recall for 10,800 units of Organic Pasture Raised 24-Count Eggs, sold under the Kirkland Signature brand.
The eggs were sold beginning Nov. 22 at 25 Costco stores in Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee.
New York-based manufacturer Handsome Brook Farms said the eggs were not intended for sale but had somehow been “accidentally” packaged and distributed.
The FDA updated the recall to a “Class I” because the eggs “may be contaminated with the bacteria salmonella, causing 26,000 Americans to be hospitalized each year.”
A “Class I” recall is a “situation in which there is a reasonable likelihood that use of or exposure to an infringing product will cause serious adverse health effects or death.”
The 24-count Kirkland Signature branded boxes were recalled by Handsome Brook Farms in New York because they “had the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.”
The boxes from the Handsome Brook Farms recall were sold at 25 Costco stores in Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee beginning November 22, 2024.
Units with the Julian code 327 and an expiration date of January 5, 2025 are included in the recall.
The FDA said in the news release that the recall was initiated after Handsome Brook officials determined that eggs not intended for delivery to markets had been accidentally packaged and distributed to retailers.
No known illnesses have been associated with the affected products.
