Upper Lockyer lawn mower death: RAAF pilot Robert Crawford quizzed by cops over the death of his wife Frances
An RAAF pilot is being questioned by detectives after his wife was reportedly killed in a ‘suspicious’ lawnmower accident late at night, with police previously reported to have been called to the house.
Frances Crawford, 49, was found dead at 3.40am on Tuesday at her Upper Lockyer property in south-east Queensland.
Queensland police said Friday that her husband, Robert Crawford, an air force squadron leader, called emergency services to report that his wife had been injured by a lawnmower. When emergency services arrived, they found her dead.
Detective Chief Inspector George Marchesini said Mr Crawford, who was the only other person on the property at the time, was questioned by officers.
“He is assisting police in their investigation into what exactly happened that morning,” he told reporters on Friday.
“Since then, we have not been able to establish a cause as to what was discovered at the crime scene. We have been speaking with him since [she] was discovered.’
Chief Inspector Marchesini said police had previously visited the property in July last year and that ‘some action had been taken’.
But he said no measures had been taken against domestic violence by the couple.

He said Ms Crawford was last seen alive on Monday afternoon and had returned to work earlier that day.
Chief Inspector Marchesini said police were “not looking for any other individuals” in connection with the investigation, but urged anyone with information to come forward as inquiries continue.
“There are a number of things we need to understand better,” he said.
“If anyone knows about the woman or the family and has heard this information that is coming out this week, we would like to hear from them what they know.
“This is a tragic incident. Our thoughts are with the family, especially the woman’s three children, the community, her workplace and also the emergency services workers who perform these types of jobs.”
Daily Mail Australia has learned that Crawford returned to Australia from an overseas posting in late July and stayed at the property for about a week before his wife died.
Detective Marchesini said the circumstances leading to Mrs Crawford’s death, such as her husband’s work schedule, would form part of their investigation.
The update comes after police on Thursday labeled the case suspicious after spending the day searching the home for evidence.
During the day, 10 police cars, including several forensic units, arrived at the remote site.
Mrs Crawford, who grew up in the Toowoomba region, was a respected local psychologist. Her death has caused great distress in the community.
Her parents Joke and Ben Pilon told Daily Mail Australia on Thursday that her husband was “devastated” by their daughter’s death and that the couple were living together “happily”.

Her loved ones have honored the mother of three, along with her brother David Pilon, with a “loving heart.”
“She loved Jesus and it is a great comfort to her family and friends that she is now at peace in heaven,” he told the Toowoomba Chronicle.
Mrs Crawford’s family said her gentle grace and compassionate nature will be missed by all.
“She cared deeply about the people around her and put their needs above her own,” the family said.
‘Frances was taken from her family far too early, but she touched the lives of so many people during her 49 lifetimes.’
Crawford is an RAAF cargo pilot and squadron leader – a senior position and the equivalent of a major in the army – who operates from the Royal Australian Air Force base at Amberley, about 5 miles (8km) southwest of Ipswich.
Over the past two decades the couple have lived across Australia, including Sydney, Adelaide and Queensland, where Sqn Ldr Crawford has held various positions within the Australian Defence Force.
The investigation is still ongoing.
