Apple has released a new security update and is urging iPhone users to download it immediately.
The iOS 17.1.1 update addresses a critical bug that caused iPhone 15 models to crash after trying to use wireless charging in some cars.
Drivers of cars made by BMW or Toyota found they were unable to use Apple Pay or other NFC features after using in-car charging.
Apple also fixed a strange bug that made the weather widget unable to display a snow icon.

iOS 17.1.1 update addresses a serious flaw that caused iPhone 15 models to crash after trying to use wireless charging in some cars.
Describing the update, Apple says: “In rare cases, Apple Pay and other NFC features may become unavailable on iPhone 15 models after wireless charging in some vehicles.”
While Apple did not name the type of car associated with this bug, users have reported it occurring frequently in some BMW and Toyota Supra cars.
While the update is available for all iPhone models produced since 2018, only the latest iPhone 15, 15 Plus, 15 Pro, and 15 Pro Max models are affected.
Apple also notes that the update fixes another bug, saying: “Weather lock screen widget may not display snow correctly.”
Users have noticed that the weather widget displays a file icon instead of a snow icon as well as a dashed line appearing through the weather notification.
To download the update, simply open the Settings app on your iPhone, select General, then choose Software Update.

From here, click on the button marked Download and Install, and the new update will be downloaded soon.
The update is only 390.6MB, which is fairly small and won’t take long to download and install over a good WiFi connection.

It also comes just weeks before the expected launch of iOS 17.2, sparking speculation that Apple may have rushed the rollout of this latest update to fix the Apple Pay bug.
Apple made the iOS 17.2 beta available to developers in late October, and it’s expected to be released sometime in December.
Meanwhile, Apple has reportedly paused development of major software updates to fix existing bugs.
Apple has pulled software engineers from projects dealing with major software updates next year so they can focus on ensuring existing software is bug-free. Bloomberg reports.
Apple also released updates for Mac, HomePod, and Apple Watch today.
The Apple Watch update, called 10.1.1, aims to fix a common bug that causes users’ battery to suddenly drain.
Some users reported that their watch lost its entire charge within just hours due to a software issue.
