Apple released a new update this week called iOS 17.2.

The update introduces a brand new tool called Journal, which Apple describes as a “way to reflect on life's moments and preserve your memories.”

Additionally, the release includes urgent bug fixes and security updates for your iPhone.

How to Download iOS 17.2 on Your iPhone

To install it on your device, simply open the Settings app, then General and Software Update.

If your device is compatible, you will see iOS 17.2 listed.

You can choose to download it immediately or download it overnight, although you'll need to make sure your iPhone is charged for this to happen.

“And we're making it possible for other diary apps to provide the same personalized suggestions while maintaining the highest level of privacy.”

Action button

It was one of the most talked-about new features on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, and now the Action button is getting an exciting update.

Users can now set the button to quickly translate sentences while talking to someone in another language.

Camera

The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max will also receive an upgrade to the camera system.

The Weather app now shows precipitation amounts, while new widgets let you choose from next-hour precipitation, daily forecast, sunrise and sunset times, and current conditions such as air quality, wind chill, and wind speed.

A new interactive lunar calendar also shows you which phase of the moon we will be in for the coming month.

Improvements and bug fixes

In addition to the new features, the update also includes various improvements and bug fixes.

AirDrop has been improved, allowing you to share boarding passes, movie tickets and other eligible passes by bringing two iPhones together.

Meanwhile, AutoFill has been improved, allowing you to fill your contacts' names and addresses into PDFs and other forms.

And while Apple isn't disclosing the specific bug fixes, it adds that iOS 17.2 “fixes an issue that could prevent wireless charging in certain vehicles.”

2018: In a first for the company, Apple is introducing new features in its latest operating system, iOS 12, that encourage users to manage their devices and spend less time on them. The move came in the wake of a strongly worded letter from shareholders urging the company to tackle the growing problem of smartphone addiction among children and teens.

2019: In January, Apple reports its first sales and profit decline in a decade. CEO Tim Cook partly blamed the sharp decline in sales from China.

2020: In March, Apple will close all its physical stores outside China in response to the coronavirus.

2021: During an online virtual event in April, CEO Tim Cook stated Apple's goal of becoming carbon neutral by Earth Day. Later that year, the iPhone 13 was announced.

2022: The iPhone 14 was announced in September. Among the new features included a new sensor that detects if a user has been in a car accident, and an improved camera system.

2023: So far this year, Apple has brought back its 'Home Pod' after the first generation was discontinued. The 'Home Pod' can be seen as an alternative to Amazon's Alexa or Google Home as it is powered by voice commands.
