An international student driving a flashy Mercedes-Benz SUV around a college campus has divided the internet with his advice on how to get rich.
Eve, a social media influencer, was stunned when she saw the Mercedes Benz G63 driving around the Sydney University of NSW car park and decided to approach the driver.
The latest Mercedes Benz G63 costs almost $400,000 drive-away, enough to buy a house on the western edge of Sydney.
After complimenting the man behind the wheel on his ‘cool car’, she asked him what model it was before inquiring what he did for a living.
“International student at UNSW,” the young man replied in broken English.
He was then asked what financial advice he had for others so they could become as wealthy as he was.
‘Buy more houses; it’s a good idea,” he replied as the interview quickly ended.
Under Foreign Investment Review Board regulations, international students can purchase one established property, and it must be for living purposes. An established home means a house or apartment that has already been built and occupied.
They also require FIRB approval for the purchase.
If they want to buy an investment property, it must be a new property or vacant land to build a new property, and not an existing home.
Student visa rules provide a loophole for Chinese residents looking to purchase established property in Australia.
The video has since gone viral, with nearly 155,000 views in 16 hours.
Hundreds of stunned viewers joined the debate as Australia’s cost of living crisis worsened.
‘Financial advice from this guy? “Don’t have poor parents,” someone said.

Another said: ‘I would buy a house if I could mate.’
A third wrote: ‘Hard to buy a house when all your international student families are buying it, yet we can’t afford it ourselves and keep the door wide open.
Another added: “When I was in college I didn’t have money for lunch…or the bus,” one person wrote.
Others didn’t understand what the fuss was about when they came to the student’s defense.
‘What’s the problem?’ one viewer responded.
Another wrote, “YET he drives a G-WAGON and here you are sitting in the couch of your dirty basement, sipping cheap beer and feeling jealous. Wow, get a life man.”
More than 20,000 international students attend UNSW.
An influx of international students have returned to Australian shores in their thousands over the past 18 months since international borders reopened in the wake of the Covid pandemic.
