Unofficial renders of the Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 Ultra have just been leaked – and they hint at an Apple Watch Ultra 2 rival

What’s going on with the Samsung Galaxy Watch 7? We’ve heard rumors of a cheaper FE model, a more expensive Ultra model and many more – and now unofficial renderings of that Ultra edition have surfaced online.

These renders come from well-known tipsters @OnLeaks together with Smartprix, and they demonstrate some interesting features. For starters, the form factor appears to be half round, half square, which matches previous rumors that Samsung was thinking of returning to a square design for its smartwatches.

There’s a rotating bezel, like the one that was on the Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 Classic, and what appears to be a new button on the right side of the watch when you look at the screen. The display is apparently 1.5 inches in diameter, which again matches the Galaxy Watch 6 Classic launched last year.

On the back of the watch we can’t tell from these images what the sensors are, but there appears to have been a change from last year’s models. There’s talk of health and fitness upgrades for the Galaxy Watch 7, which this new sensor array could be an indication of.

Going ultra

There are also other changes worth mentioning: watch straps that integrate seamlessly with the case for a smoother look. It also appears that the button mechanisms for releasing the straps are now mounted on the smartwatch’s body, rather than being on the actual straps.

These renders also show larger speaker grilles, plus holes that apparently sit above the microphones on the device. It’s possible that the Galaxy Watch 7 Ultra will come with improved calling capabilities, making talking to someone through a smartwatch a decent audio experience.

There’s still a lot of confusion surrounding this watch, which speakers previously called the Galaxy Watch 7 Pro and the Galaxy Watch Ultra (without number). If this model is real, it could be an attempt to take on the Apple Watch Ultra 2 and the best Garmin smartwatches more directly.

We can be pretty sure we’ll get at least one Galaxy Watch 7 model this year, and maybe two or three. According to experts, Samsung will unveil the watch (and a lot of other new devices) during the next Unpacked event on July 10.
