University of Alabama grads left stunned over Gen Z’s Bama Bound outfits – with some spending THOUSANDS on their pricey athleisure and jewelry

Although it’s not yet recruiting time at the University of Alabama, the incoming freshmen are preparing — and showing off their expensive outfits on TikTok — while attending the Bama Bound orientation program.

The June program gives prospective students a chance to get to know each other before starting classes and being recruited by a fraternity in the fall.

And while it’s an informal event, this year’s young women went the extra mile, trading in the cheap, oversized T-shirts and Nike Tempo shorts of previous years for luxe athleisure like Lululemon miniskirts and Alo crop tops.

On social media, users were shocked to learn that high school students were spending hundreds of dollars on workout clothes and thousands of dollars on jewelry, while former Alabama graduates showed how their style has changed over time.

TikTok creator Kasey Jane Dameowho attended the University of Alabama in 2016 and now lives in Charleston, South Carolina, made a video about the major differences in fashion.

Kasey showed off her own Bama Bound outfit from back in the day, which included aviator sunglasses, a large scrunchie, an oversized T-shirt and white sneakers.

“It was cool then. A long time ago,” the content creator promised about her oversized ensemble.

Commenters were quick to agree that this was “the vibe of the time,” as one woman said, “No, but like we were just there to live, we weren’t worried about a cute outfit.”

Another 2016 Bama Bound participant Samantha Macke shared a TikTok and captioned a video of her outfit: “Bama Bound’s outfits blew us away, this is what we all wore in 2016.” She showed off a photo of herself in Nike sneakers with invisible socks, Nike Tempo shorts, an oversized T-shirt and a baseball cap.

Samantha also shared a photo in the same video wearing black Nike Tempo shorts, which retail for around $30, black Chacos and a tie-dye oversized tank top over a sports bra.

One millennial wrote, “I guess they’re just still kids because I’m old; graduated from high school in 2009, and before I became an adult, I had outfits that looked like Soffee shorts and a T or wa tank top.”

Other people complained about how expensive collegiate outfits are now, with one young woman saying, “Here you go, please.” I have almost 600 rush outfits so far and all I have are two things.

One person tweeted, “I somehow ended up on Bama-bound OOTD TikTok and I’m so shocked like, what do you mean you’re wearing thousands of dollars worth of jewelry for ORIENTATION?”

Another agreed: ‘RIGHT???? Just wait until the rush.”

Another person wrote: ‘Bama rush tok is now transformed with Bama Bound tok. They post their Bama Bound outfits that cost HUNDREDS of dollars for the full fit.”

They continued, “Tbh, I’m glad I just finished school there because it’s turning (now more than ever) into a school that rich girls flock to every year for the chance to go viral because they’re rich, and in a student association it is very obvious.’

“Greek life has always been a huge draw, but now that more and more girls are going viral just for wearing super expensive outfits to rush a super expensive sorority, it’s becoming unbearable,” they snapped.
