The United States women’s national team survived a pair of questionable goals from the Canadians to win the SheBelieves Cup on penalty kicks on Tuesday night.

The match was tied at 2 at the end of regular time, after a brace from American forward Sophia Smith and Canadian Adriana Leon.

Both Canadian goals would have been checked by VAR in a larger tournament, as the SheBelieves Cup relied solely on the referee’s decisions.

Controversial American star Korbin Albert came on as a substitute in the 75th minute to mixed reactions from the crowd in Columbus.

The United States trailed 1-0 at halftime after Leon scored into an empty net in the 40th minute.
