For the first time, unheard-of tapes have been revealed in which Princess Diana claims that King Charles said he was ‘disappointed’ when Prince Harry was born because he ‘wanted a girl’.

The audio was recorded by Diana in the 1990s during her conversations with her biographer Andrew Morton, who went on to publish the best-selling book Diana: Her True Story.

Snippets of the clips, which will air in an upcoming documentary, have been released in the US.

Diana claims that at Prince Harry’s christening in 1984, Charles told her stepmother Raine Spencer, “We’re so disappointed, we wanted a girl.”

Countess Spencer “then knocked his head off” and told him to “realize you’re lucky to have a child,” added Diana.

Princess Diana’s true feelings about her ‘ridiculous’ marriage to King Charles and her claim that the monarch told her stepmother he ‘wanted a girl’ shortly after Prince Harry was born have been revealed on unheard tapes

The upcoming documentary is a follow-up to the 2017 production Diana: In Her Own Words.

Tom Jennings, the producer of both documentaries, told ABC, “When the first movie came out, people were stunned because they hadn’t heard Diana talk like that before.”

He added, “It’s a style of storytelling that’s really hard to do, but I think it’s the closest to the truth you can get, because there’s nothing standing in your way.

“As part of Diana’s legacy, it’s important to let more of those tapes be heard.”

The princess recorded seven hours of audio while still married to King Charles, the then Prince of Wales.

However, not all audio was heard in the 2017 documentary.

The new production is expected to be heard in early 2024.

Another fragment reveals Diana’s hatred for her stepmother. She is heard to say, “I was so angry. I told her, ‘I hate you so much. If only you knew how much we all hated you for what you did.

“You destroyed the house, you spent Dad’s money.” I said all I could and Raine said, “You have no idea how much your mother hurt your father.”

“I said, ‘Pain, Raine? That’s a word you don’t even know how to use.’

“In my work and in my role, I see people suffer like you’ve never seen before. And you call that pain?” I said, “You still have a lot to learn.”
