Christopher Olivean influencer with over 400,000 followers, took to TikTok to express his frustration after being charged $16 for a “happy meal.”
“So I understand there’s a labor shortage, wage increases and a number of other factors,” Olive from Idaho says in the video. “Only $16? $16 for a burger, a big boy and a drink? It’s just crazy!’
The video, originally posted in December last year, has gone viral again after McDonald’s reported a 14 percent increase in sales to $6.69 billion on Monday.

Some social media users, on the other hand, came out to defend the fast food chain.
“Bro ordered the most expensive meal they have and acted surprised,” one person wrote.
Several users also suggested Olive use the McDonald’s mobile app: ‘Download the app. You can literally eat McDonald’s every time for less than $6.”
The video has been viewed more than 600,000 times, liked 31.6k times, with thousands of comments and shares.

She showed that even though the fast food restaurant advertised a “dollar menu,” every item was priced above $1.
In her video, which has been viewed more than 300,000 times so far, she raged against McDonald’s for letting its prices get “out of hand.”
“McDonald’s currently has a dollar menu without a single item that costs one dollar,” she said in the video, which showed a close-up of the food for sale.
Sodas and iced tea cost $1.29, while iced coffee and frozen drinks cost $2.
Although customers don’t seem to like the new changes. These menu increases may have boosted the company’s sales.

The average price of the meal – including fries and a drink – is $8.64 in the US, according to MC-Menu.
McDonald’s sales rose 14 percent to $6.69 billion, ahead of Wall Street’s forecast of $6.56 billion. Net profit – including a $26 million charge for a restructuring announced last spring – rose 17 percent to $2.3 billion.
The Chicago-based company earned $3.17 per share for the quarter, also beating expectations of $3.00. Shares rose 1 percent.
McDonald’s said U.S. traffic fell slightly in the third quarter as it saw fewer visits from customers with annual incomes of $45,000 or less.
The chain is curbing higher prices and focusing more on value meals after seeing a decline in visits from some customers.
McDonald’s was accused of ‘greedflation’: the practice of cashing in on headlines about inflation by raising prices more than necessary.
In the first three months of 2023, McDonald’s saw its profits skyrocket to $3.314 billion, an increase of 8.64 percent from the same period last year.
About 8.4 percent of the growth was attributed to higher menu prices.
According to The Economist’s Big Mac Index, McDonald’s prices have risen 125 percent since 1996. And in the past two years alone, the price has increased by 6 percent.
