In a carefully crafted response to Iran’s deadly missile attack on terror bases in Pakistan, India said on Wednesday it understands the actions countries are taking in self-defense.

At the same time, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said it is a matter between Iran and Pakistan and asserted that India has an “uncompromising” stance of “zero tolerance” towards terrorism.

“This is a matter between Iran and Pakistan,” he said.

The spokesperson was responding to media queries about the Iranian missile attack in Pakistan.

“As far as India is concerned, we have an uncompromising stand of zero tolerance towards terrorism. We understand the actions taken by countries in self-defense,” Jaiswal said.

Tehran launched an unprecedented missile and drone attack on what it said targeted a terrorist group’s bases in restive Balochistan province.

Two bases of the Sunni militant Baloch group ‘Jaish al-Adl’ in Pakistan’s restive Balochistan province were targeted by missiles and drones on Tuesday, Iranian state media reported.

Pakistan on Wednesday recalled its ambassador to Iran and suspended all planned high-level bilateral visits.

In Islamabad, Pakistani Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mumtaz Baloch said the Iranian ambassador to Pakistan, who is currently visiting Iran, may not return to Islamabad for the time being.

Pakistan also reserves the right to retaliate against Iran’s provocation, she said.
