Unassuming three-bed home goes on the market for £575,000 – but people are shocked by one room

An unremarkable three-bedroom house is on the market for £575,000, but one room has people shocked.

At first glance, the terraced house in St Albans, Hertfordshire, appears to be a typical family home.

The property has three bedrooms, one bathroom, a garage and a conservatory and is located just a few miles from the city centre and is a sought after home in many ways.

However, people online were baffled by a ‘very unusual’ room in Frost’s Estate Agents’ advert on Rightmove, which contrasted sharply with the otherwise perfectly normal home.

Hidden among photos of a perfectly good bedroom and bathroom is a bizarre room completely overrun by penguins.

Meanwhile, a colony of stuffed penguins dominates a street corner, all staring at the giant stuffed penguin across the street.

Even the walls are painted blue to symbolize the sea and almost every species of flightless bird can be found in the room.

On TikTok the page is @housinghorrors reacted in shock to the surprising room, exclaiming, “Oh my god, I’ve never seen so many penguins in my entire life. This is just so niche.

‘Imagine you go over to your partner’s house for dinner, and you go into the guest room for a nap, and you see it!

“Imagine sleeping in that room and all those eyes looking at you. I don’t know if I could do that.”

While many were shocked by the penguin room, others declared that they “absolutely loved” the concept.

People commented: ‘575k seems like a lot, but if the Penguins are in it, it’s a steal’;

‘I love it when people have these collections. It’s like you never have to think about what to give them, penguin themed and you’re done’;

‘I WOULD BUY IT JUST FOR THE PENGUIN ROOM’;

“I would only buy it if it had penguins.”

Even Penguin Books saw its chance and wrote: ‘Okay, there’s no need to display my house like this.’

The penguin house is not the only special object that has come onto the market in recent months.

A Disney-themed house with “disruptive” decorations, including a huge mural of Aladdin, also left people baffled earlier this month.

The house in Rhyl, North Wales, also seemed unremarkable with an affordable price of £179,000.

The property features a princess pink-style bedroom, an Aladdin-themed living room, and an emerald green room decorated to resemble Maleficent’s lair but also housing Snow White’s mirror.

And it appears Elwy Estates, the real estate agent selling the home, is embracing the extravagant decor.

The advert, which also appeared on Zoopla, read: ‘We’ve just waved our magic wand and *Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo* we’ve found your happiness!’

Agents describe the property as a “charming three-bedroom home where dreams come true,” noting the unique decorative choices and calling it “the perfect place to host and create lasting memories!”

A three-bedroom house in leafy west London also had a unique feature: the master bedroom had an open-plan toilet.

The bath, sink and toilet were not separated from the rest of the room by a wall and were therefore in full view (and presumably in the smell too).
