Aston Villa boss Unai Emery ‘wants to sign left-back Kieran Tierney from Arsenal and reunite with the player he brought to the Emirates’… but Man City and Newcastle are also on the hunt

  • And Aston Villa is now in the race for the 25-year-old’s signature

Aston Villa boss Unai Emery is reportedly looking to sign left-back Kieran Tierney from Arsenal and reunite with the player he brought to the Emirates.

The former Celtic star is limited to just five Premier League starts so far this season as Arsenal embark on their most credible title fight in over a decade.

However, after a serious knee injury brought a premature end to Tierney’s season last season, Arsenal signed Oleksandr Zinchenko from Manchester City.

Mikel Arteta has repeatedly chosen Ukrainian Zinchenko over the Scot since the start of the season.

And Villa has now entered the race for the 25-year-old’s signature, according to The Telegraph.

Tierney is also in the interest of title rivals Manchester City and Newcastle United.

The sun reported that Newcastle will make a £30 million bid to sign Tierney and sources close to the player believe a move north is increasingly likely.

Villa heads to Wolves on Saturday and has dropped to eighth after the midweek results, but remains on the hunt for a surprising European place.

Emery acknowledges that failing to qualify for Europe could affect the caliber of players the club could sign this summer, but it won’t change his ultimate goal.

“Maybe, yes, but it doesn’t change my mind, the idea we talked about,” he said.

‘We want to set up a strong structure here, a strong mentality. You have to build a team like a family.

“When we are in Europe we will add some opportunities to bring trophies and play more games, for me it will be fantastic.

“If it’s not this year, my idea and goal is the same: try to play in Europe with Aston Villa.

“Not only to play in Europe, but I also want to play in the Champions League with Aston Villa. ‘
