Ultra-exclusive Maine restaurant can only be booked by sending a POSTCARD: The Lost Kitchen then picks hopeful diners requests for $265-a-head dinner at random for its May-to-October season

An ultra-exclusive restaurant in Maine has once again cleared the way for reservations, but it can only be booked by sending a postcard.

The Lost Kitchen brings crowds of people from all over the country to the small town of Freedom, which has a population of about 700.

But those who would like to experience the $265-a-head dinner for the May through October dining season must submit a postcard for a chance to get a reservation.

It accepts submissions and customers are asked to send a standard 4-by-6-inch postcard to their address.

The restaurant, which is the subject of a hit television series, randomly pulls out tickets and lucky guests receive a phone call to book their reservations.

The Lost Kitchen, owned by chef and author Erin French, announced details of its postcard reservation system on Tuesday.

It is one of the most sought after restaurant reservations in the US, receiving approximately 20,000 postcards each season.

The restaurant asks people not to submit their entries using envelopes or send in more than one, as those who attempt to duplicate entries will be disqualified.

“Please do not send postcards on behalf of others,” the statement said. ‘In the rare event that two family members/companions receive a booking call within the same session, we kindly request that you decline a second booking.’

The Lost Kitchen, which welcomes about 50 people every evening, is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year.

Those lucky enough to be chosen spend more than five hours at the remote facility that was previously a historic mill.

“Dinner is so much more than a meal at (The Lost Kitchen),” the website reads.

‘It is an evening, an adventure, a moment and a memory. A night with us lasts more than 5 hours, consists of many courses and fills not only your stomach, but also your heart.

‘The mill is yours all night, with an intimate group and the utmost personal attention from Erin and our close-knit team.

‘It is our duty to give you an experience that not only feels magical, but is priceless at the same time.

“Our dinners reflect the value of the finest ingredients we can find, and our commitment to paying our staff fairly and consciously, the unique experience we work so hard to bring to you.”

French first introduced the postcard system in 2018 after being bombarded with calls for reservations.

“It gave everyone the same opportunity and it just took some effort,” she previously said NEWS CENTER Maine.

“We decided that if you didn’t have the patience to write your name on a note and put it in the mail, you wouldn’t have the patience for a four-hour dinner, so it was basically helping anyone who would . ‘don’t enjoy it.’

Those not initially selected may have the opportunity to visit later in the season if other diners cancel.
