Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and his wife Olena Zelenska meet Sweden’s King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia before joining Crown Princess Mary in Denmark

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and his wife Olena Zelenska met several members of the European royal family this weekend.

The couple were first welcomed yesterday by King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia at Stenhammar Palace in Flen, southwest of Stockholm, before traveling to Denmark today.

Upon arrival at Skrydstrup airbase in Vojens, they were received by the Danish Crown Princess Mary, Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen and Defense Minister Jakob Ellemann-Jensen.

Mary, 51, proved her fashion prowess wearing stylish brown trousers, paired with a white blouse, fastened at the waist with a chic belt. She completed her look with brown heels.

The Ukrainian First Lady, meanwhile, looked just as elegant in a cream trouser suit, while her husband wore a modest combination of black shirt and green trousers.

Mr Zelensky’s visit to Denmark was revealed on Sunday by the Danish Prime Minister’s office after announcing a decision to supply F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine.

Zelensky had hailed the agreement – made by both the Netherlands and Denmark to supply the planes – as historic, CNN reports. “I am very grateful,” he added.

Yesterday, the leader of the war-torn country was in Sweden, where he also met King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia – the same day a rocket attack in Chernihiv killed seven people and injured dozens more.

It was his first visit to the country since Russia’s large-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Mr Zelensky condemned the rocket attack, which he said hit buildings including a theater and a university.

“This is what a neighborhood with a terrorist state is, this is what we unite the whole world against. A Russian missile hit right in the center of the city, in our Chernihiv,” he wrote on Telegram.

The Ukrainian president appeared in high spirits when he visited Skrydstrup Air Force Base in Vojens, Denmark, today.

In Sweden, Mr. Zelensky met with officials in Harpsund, the prime minister’s official summer residence, about 120 kilometers west of Stockholm.

At a joint press conference, Mr. Zelensky and Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson announced that the two countries have agreed to strengthen cooperation on production, training and maintenance of Sweden’s CV-90 infantry fighting vehicles.

As part of the agreement, Mr Zelensky said, Swedish CV-90 vehicles will go into production in Ukraine. He also stressed the importance of supplying Ukraine with modern aircraft.

“We don’t have air superiority and we don’t have modern aircraft. In reality, the Swedish Gripen is the pride of your country, and I believe the Prime Minister could share this pride with Ukraine,” Zelensky said, adding that “appropriate measures” would be taken in the following weeks to “open the country to set’. possibility of obtaining the right aircraft’.

“I will also conduct negotiations with several other states tomorrow and the day after tomorrow.

“I am confident that together with our partners we will do everything and get the right result in the air so that the Russians do not have an advantage there,” he said.

Mr. Kristersson sends his condolences to Mr. Zelensky for the Chernihiv attack. He called the Russian missile strike an “act of brutality” that “only reinforces the need for us to assist you in all your struggles.”

Sweden has abandoned its long-standing policy of military non-alignment to support Ukraine with arms and other aid in its war against Russia.

The government says Sweden has provided 20 billion kroner (£1.43 billion) in military aid to Ukraine. Sweden has also applied for NATO membership, but is still waiting to join the alliance.
